MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries is looking for an energetic, self-motivated and professional Job Coach to join our Summer Work Experience - St Louis Career Center team! The Summer Work Experience (SWE) program offers valuable job opportunities for students ages 16–20. During the program, participants will work on building important skills such as effective communication, following directions, adapting to change, gaining self-confidence, staying focused, working independently, learning new job tasks, and improving both the quality and speed of their work. Job types vary by site and may include tasks like unpacking products, bagging groceries, setting tables, or cleaning.
Job Coaches support small groups of 4–7 students at a local work site. As a job coach, you will give feedback and ongoing support to help students meet job expectations, grow their skills, and overcome any challenges they face on the job. You'll complete daily observations, assist with problem-solving, and make sure each participant has what they need to succeed. The SWE program spans six to eight weeks from June to July, with introductory training sessions scheduled in May. Please note that this is a part-time position, and the working hours are 20-22 hours per week.
Qualifications
- A high school degree is required; an associate's/bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Experience working in social services with individuals with disabilities is required. Experience working with youth with disabilities is preferred.
- Excellent time management and strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Works alongside participant as needed to assist with meeting employer expectations with regards to task completion and speed.
- Continue to provide training to improve participant work performance after employer's training period has ended.
- Problem solves to create accommodations or other ways to address performance issues.
- Support participants to develop and maintain relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
- Develops and maintains natural support on the job and establishes working relationships with the supervisor(s).
- Implement proper fading/re-entry techniques to ensure participant success.
- Maintains contact with MERS/Goodwill Case Manager assigned to the participant to report progress and difficulties.
- Completes agency documentation which may include, but not limited to, daily documentation of observations and job coaching/retention hourly log. When coaching for Summer Work Experience, documentation will include participant time-sheets and weekly evaluations.
- Utilizes time at the work site to complete all necessary documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
