One of the most heartbreaking occurrences in education is a student dropping out of school.  With the best staff, the best classroom differentiation, and all the family support in the world, we still lose some kids.  They grow to adults and, without a high school degree, their ability to further their education and obtain employment that allows them to support themselves and their family, is limited.  There are over 500,000 Missourians without a high school degree and the impact is over $400,000 over an adult's working life.  This is your chance to play a key role in helping adults go back to school to earn their high school degree.

Goodwill, supported by DESE and MO DSS, opened three adult high schools in Missouri in 2018, and a 4th in 2019.  We opened our 5th and 6th high schools in 2023 in Florissant and Cape Girardeau.  Our schools serve almost a thousand adults, offer five accelerated terms per year, are open from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, and classes are taught by MO-certified teachers.  Students can pick up where they left off with their high school credits and complete the remaining credits they need to earn an MO HS diploma.  Students can take as many classes as their schedule allows and we work to remove many of the barriers students might face.  The schools all offer on-site and free preschool, help to subsidize transportation costs and assign a life coach who can help with issues of food or housing scarcity, mental health support, etc.  Currently 41% of our graduates enroll in college or advanced training and about 60% graduate with dual credit or an industry recognized certification.  

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution. At least three years of direct educational supervisory experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction, Dean of Students, or a high school Principal.  Five years of supervisory experience, a master’s degree, and an Admin certification are preferred. Must have strong verbal and written skills, strong computer and analytical skills, and experience managing a board and community/political relationships. Must be able to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and co-workers.  Must also manage change, build teams, and plan and lead meetings with a “servant leadership” style.  


Some day travel and occasional evening and weekend availability are expected. 

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Managing the development, partnerships, and operation of 4-6 adult high school in St. Louis, Poplar Bluff, Columbia, and Springfield.
  • The Superintendent analyzes recruitment strategies, forms strategic partnerships with community colleges and vocational schools, and supports the EVP of Mission Services in partnering with local employers to ensure that industry recognized certifications offered through Excel match the local labor market needs.
  • The Superintendent will be responsible for training and development of staff to ensure that graduation rates, appropriate referrals to higher education, and employment goals are met.
  • The position will ensure curriculum aligns with state and network requirements will model and support best practices in differential instruction and will be responsible for the overall quality of instruction of the student.
